What is Shatkarma?
Shatkarma (or Shatkriya) roughly translates to the “six actions” of yogic cleansing. These are age-old practices from Hatha Yoga that serve to purify the body’s internal structures.
Those six cleansing techniques are:
- Neti – Nasal purification with water or thread (relieves sinus, allergy and respiratory issues)
- Dhauti – Purification of the stomach and food pipe (helps improve appetite and high acidity)
- Nauli – Rubbing internal organs with abdominal muscles increases digestion and energy level
- Basti – Colon cleansing (removes toxins and improves gut health)
- Kapalbhati – Cleansing with vigorous breathwork (brightens the mind and purifies the lungs)
- Trataka – Eye purification through concentrated gazing (brings clarity, memory, concentration)
